Just a Bite

There is no Just a Bite lunch in December. In the New Year the first occasion will be 12noon-1:30 pm on Monday 29th January in Fenny Compton Village Hall. A light lunch of homemade soup, roll and cheese costs £3.50, with tea, coffee and home-made cake also available.

Abacus Duck Race 2018

We are holding our Annual Duck Race in January 2018. This is a popular event, so buy your duck as soon as they become available, watch out for the ducks around the village to announce when they are on sale.
Fundraising is a vital part of keeping Abacus going, so our thanks as always for all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes to make these events a success.
The children have had a busy time, we have started our early years assembly with the reception class. They have done some conker rolling, vegetable printing, and have drawn pictures and put stamps on the envelope and posted it to themselves - hopefully they all arrived! We will be celebrating Christmas and hopefully all the practice pays off and we have our wonderful Nativity play.
We have spaces available, but some sessions are getting busier. We usually take children from 2½ years old so if you have not yet been to see us please call 771 050 to arrange a visit. We wish everyone a peaceful and happy Christmas and New Year.

Tots and Toddlers

It has been great to welcome new families to our group recently. We are always looking for new people to come along so do mention the group to anyone you know with preschool aged children.
We have lots of Christmas crafts and activities planned in the next few weeks and our final session before Christmas is on Wednesday 20th December. Then we are back in the New Year on Wednesday 10th January. If you would like to come and join us, we offer a friendly welcome and lots of toys and activities for children from birth to school age. We meet in Fenny Compton Village Hall each Wednesday morn-ing 9:45am-11:45am. £2 per family, 50p for additional children including refresh-ments. First week free. We are also now on Facebook.

Over 60s

At our November meeting the children from The Dassett School entertained us with some lovely singing. Our Bring and Buy Sale raised £106-20 for The Air Ambulance.
Our Christmas Lunch will be held at The Merrie Lion on Tuesday 12th December at 12noon for 12:30pm. The first meeting of the New Year will be on Tuesday 9th January in Fenny Compton Village Hall at 2:30pm with entertainment too be arranged.

Fenny Compton & District WI

Anyone receiving a Christmas present from one of our members this year will be very impressed by the packaging. Alan Keech, the speaker at our November meeting, explained how he got interested in the art of gift wrapping following his retirement. He then led us through the steps to perfect wrapping with the result that we all went home with a beautifully wrapped package. We hope that our guests enjoyed themselves as well.
With the knitted items made by our Craft Group and other donations from our members we can send 20 shoeboxes to the Samaritan appeal.
December is a very busy month for us. We start the run up to Christmas with our Craft and Gift Table Top Sale on 2nd December which with 12 varied stalls is sure to be a great success. Next on the Agenda is our Christmas lunch at The Merrie Lion then we will be attending a Carol Service organised by Bishops Itchington WI. Our final meeting of the year will be our Christmas Party and, this year, we will be the guests of Boddington WI, so we are expecting a really great evening.
2018 is the Centenary year of the Warwickshire Federation of Women's Institutes and we are looking forward to joining in the celebrations. Our own WI has two or three years to go before we reach this milestone and are hoping to expand our programme in the coming years.
We enjoy our times with the WI and if you are interested in finding out more us you would be very welcome to our first meeting of the year on Wednesday 10th January at 7:30pm in Fenny Compton Village Hall when we will be learning the art of Hand Bell Ringing.
New members are always welcome from any part of the district, information can be obtained from secretary Deborah Lea on 770 652.

Charity Coffee Morning

Thank you to everyone that ventured out to Fenny Compton Village Hall on a cold and wet November day to support our Coffee Morning in aid of Cancer Research UK and Young lives vs Cancer Clic Sargent. I am delighted to say we raised an astonishing £1404.90 on the morning which is all thanks to everyone's help and support once again. A BIG thank you from all the team.

MacMillan Coffee Morning

The Vintage coffee cups came out again for another successful coffee morning. Many thanks to all those who supported this event, from tidying the hall, supplying prizes, helping on the day, baking cakes, sending donations, to coming on the day to drink coffee & eat cake. Together we raised £316.54 towards the "Biggest Coffee Morning" fundraiser and the wonderful work done by Macmillan Cancer Support.
Congratulations to John Kegg who correctly guessed the Bear's name as "Sandy", winning the bear and the Spa Toiletries Hamper. Congratulations also to his wife, Candy, who won the Coffee Hamper and Book by choosing the winning cup in the Macmillan's "Double Shot" game.

Fenny Compton Scout Group

Christmas Carolling: Sunday 10th December from 5pm. We will be meeting at Fenny Compton Village Hall and setting off from there to go around the village carolling. All proceeds will be split between the Church and the Scout Group. We will be ending up at the Merrie Lion – please join us!
2019 World Scout Jamboree: Two members of the Fenny Compton Scout Group, Sam Allen and Issy Wicks, have been selected to represent Warwickshire and the UK at the World Scout Jamboree to be held in West Virginia USA in 2019. The Jamboree is a bigger event than the Olympics, the campsite is larger than Coventry and over 45,000 Scouts will be attending from around the world. It is a fantastic opportunity and the hard work begins now, both will be busy fundraising to pay for their trip. More details to follow……

The Dassett School

Winners: I am delighted to let you know that The Dassett School were the winners of the Midlands Region Community Fund bid for our LED lighting. It is so exciting and I would like to thank you all for your enormous and unfailing support. I know the lengths some of you went to in getting as many votes as possible and it really is much appreciated. We would not have done it without you! It just goes to show that, we may be small in size but we are strong in spirit and we can achieve great things together! Thank you everyone.
Christmas Fayre: The Christmas Fayre will be held at the school on the evening of Friday 8th December.
