UPDATE
Following the speed and circulation survey carried out earlier in the year at our request by the Warwickshire County Council Traffic Monitoring office, the group have been following up four primary issues: HGV traffic, speed and congestion caused by parking and pedestrian safety. These are interlinked and have been identified as the main priorities at present.
The group has established contact with OnTime Automotive, as the main local business contributing to the HGV traffic and they are trying to co-operate on a number of fronts including tightening the scheduling of their shuttle lorries to avoid bunching and school access hours, to providing vehicle size and weight data to assist in identifying what traffic needs to pass through the village. We are trying, jointly to make it unnecessary for any of their sub-contract container traffic to pass through the village. To this end, OnTime are supporting our efforts to get the road under the Station Road railway bridges modified to will improve pedestrian safety and reduce the number of HGV's through the village.
Other HGV hauliers are also being approached to review their use of the our village roads and see if their vehicles can be diverted to other routes.
On the speed front we have sought the co-operation of Warwickshire Police who have recently taken delivery of a new hand-held speed gun. This has already been deployed in the village on a number of occasions and drivers have been stopped and cautioned. The gun will be deployed again at irregular intervals.
In addition the Traffic Group have begun discussions with the county Road Safety Engineers to get flashing speed reminder signs installed at the entries to the village and within the speed limited area. These have proved effective in reducing speeds in other local locations. We have applied to the Parish Council to use funds they are holding for traffic calming work to pay for this project.
Work continues on all these issues and data on parking and congestion is currently being collected.
