Tots and Toddlers

We finish for the summer break on 18th July and return on the 5th September.

We have come to the end of the school year, and our first year in our wonderful building. We hope by now you have all managed to come and have a look. There is still work to be done, to expand the outdoor area and finish the toilets, but this is work in progress and why continuing to fundraise is vital. We are alays looking for different ways to generate funds so please get in touch if yo have any ideas or would like to get involved.

This term we celebrated Mother's Day, Father's Day, looked into measuring and watching runner beans grown, amongst other things. We would like to say goodbye and good luck to the children who leave us to go on to the next step in the learning journey. We hope you have fun learning though play, and we look forward to seeing you i school when we have our time in reception class in autumn.

If you have a child aged 2 1/2 and have not registered yet please call in and see us or telephone for a chat if you have any questions. We look forward to seeing everyone in September.

Avon Dassett Gardening Club

Our meetings for July and August are both garden visits. The first is on Tuesday 17th July at 7pm when we will visit The Old Vicarage at Bledington OX7 6UX. This garden has a spectacular display of roses and is well worth a visit. Admission price is £8 which includes refreshments.

For our August meeting we will be revisiting Pettifers Garden at Wardington OX17 1RU on Tuesday 21st August at 6:30pm. Those who have been before know what a treat is in store for us on that evening. Admission price is £10 which includes refreshments.

If either visit is of interest, please join us at the garden.

Over 60s

On Tuesday 12th June to celebrate the Club's 52nd birthday, or members enjoyed a lovely carvery lunch at The Plough and Harrow near Pershore. The next meeting will be held in Fenny Compton Village Hall on Tuesday 10th July at 2pm. Please note the earlier time for this meeting only. The Singing Club from The Dassett School will be entertaining us. Please come along and join us for afternoon tea, you will be most welcome. There will be no meeting in August.

Fenny Compton & District WI

June has been a busy month for us. Rose Dunn attended the NFWI AGM in Cardiff as the delegate for Fenny Compton and Kineton WIs. It was amazing to see so many women in The Motorpoint Arena Cardiff. The whole event was very well organised and was a chance to meet and exchange ideas with WI members from all over the country.

Several members went on an afternoon visit to Canons Ashby, they enjoyed the gardens and the afternoon tea.

The speak for June was Heather Wilson who brought with her samples of traditional textiles and craft she has collected and regaled us with stories and pictures of her travels in India and explained how her experiences had inspired her artwork.

The next meeting on Wednesday 11th July will be a talk by Paula Cornwell entitled "The Flying Housewife". Paula dresses the part for her talks, which should add to the fun.

We may not have a formal meeting in August but gather together in a members garden for "Bring and Share Supper", partners are invited to this event. August is also the date of the NFWI Flower and Produce Show, so fingers crossed for our Scarecrow!

Our craft group continues with our poppies and hats and scarves for the homeless but will be looking for new projects in the autumn.

Guests are welcome to any of our meetings for a small charge of £5 which includes the cost of refreshments and a raffle ticket.

Any information can be obtained form our secretary Deborah Lea on 770 652.

Fenny Compton Scout Group

Our Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers have had a busy start to 2018 with tent pitching challenges, Fairtrade evenings and Ready Steady Cook, with each section working on key aspects of the scouting programme.
The group was proud of our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts who took part in the Warwickshire Scouts and Guides Gang Show, they worked extraordinarily hard to pull off a fantastic performance – it was a great experience for all involved.
World Scout Jamboree Update: Sam and Izzy have been busy with fundraising for the World Scout Jamboree. Sam Allen writes ‘Our training started with a ‘getting to know you day' where we met the other people in the Warwickshire unit. Since then we have had a training camp at Hatton where we took part in a day hike, learnt about health and hygiene and how to keep ourselves safe on social media when publicising the Jamboree. The camp helped us to make friends and to start being more independent.
Our biggest challenge at the moment is fundraising. I've managed to raise 16% of my £3500 goal by car washing, supermarket bag packs, doing odd jobs around the house and delivering Christmas cards. We have lots of fundraising activities planned for the summer including more bag packs, a sponsored cycle ride, summer fete stalls and a community car wash at The Wharf.'
The following are key fundraising activities; it would be great if you could get involved:

Friends of Fenny: To support Sam and Izzy on their journey to the World Scout Jamboree in 2019, for a donation of £20, you can become a ‘Friend of Fenny' – you will receive regular newsletters on their activities and planning for the visit and a postcard from the Jamboree. To become a ‘Friend of Fenny', please email Sarah Allen
Fenny Car Wash: On 30th June, we will be running a car wash at The Wharf Inn – from £5/car. If you would like your vehicle washing, please come along, and spread the word!
