Fenny Compton & District WI

Happy New Year to all readers of The Compton Chronicle. Christmas seem a long way behind us now, but I am pleased to report that, with the exception of the Carol Service, which was cancelled due to snow, our Festivities were enjoyed by all.
We have already got 2018 off to a tuneful start Veronique and her team instructed our members and guests in the art of Hand Bell Ringing. Under her patient and helpful guidance, she soon had us practising chords and in no time at all we were joining in in some seasonal tunes, A very good time was had by all, although my right arm ached a bit the next day.
Some of our members attended the Centenary Cook Book Launch at the Dallas Burston Polo Club which is the first of the many events which will be held this year to celebrate the Warwickshire Federation of Women's Institutes Centenary. Here's to the next 100 years!
We have a varied and programme of events lined up for the coming year both entertaining and informative. Our February meeting which is on Valentine's Day is a champagne, chocolate and quiz night which promises to be good fun! The following two meetings are a talk about the Marton Museum of Bygones, and an evening of Bossa Nova and South American Music.
In addition to our evening meetings we are also planning our tea and cakes afternoon, an afternoon visit to Canons Ashby and a short mat bowls afternoon.
Crafts: Our Craft Group continues weekly with members undertaking joint projects, doing their own thing and hopefully learning new skills.
New members are always welcome from any part of the district.

Fenny Compton Scout Group

Happy New Year to all. Fenny Compton Scouts are looking forward to an exciting year. As we enter our 5th year of scouting in the village, as many of you will know, there are a few changes to our group and structure; the group is thriving so much so that we have now opened our second Scout troop to meet the demand.
This year we have so much to look forward to including a County Camp where all the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers from across Warwickshire will come together for a weekend in May; various fundraising activities for both the group and for our two Scouts who will be attending the World Jamboree in America; and plans are in the pipeline for a family activity day in September to celebrate our 5th birthday. This is, of course, in addition to the activities our fantastic leaders organise on a weekly basis.
As always, we are looking for help to keep our group thriving; whether you have an hour to spare to help with admin or fancy helping out more regularly on camps or troop nights– there is always a job to do in Scouting!

Seed Swap

Calling all Gardeners! If, now the growing season is over for another year, you have a multitude of unsown seeds whether of the packet variety or home-gathered, please bring them along to swap at a Seed Swap Evening at The Merrie Lion on Sunday 18th February 2018 from 7pm. If bringing home-gathered seeds, such as runner beans for example, please make sure they are all of good quality, bagged - old envelopes will be fine - and labelled. This is a free seed-swap event, with no money changing hands - except over the bar of course!
