Lead Theft

Just as we were gong to press, news came through that thieves had stolen led from the church roof in Fenny Compton. The severe rain the following morning threatened the interior of the church but the roof was quickly covered.
Fenny Compton is not the only church in the area to have suffered this despicable act. Many in this district and in South Northamptonshire have suffered equally.
Insurance will cover some of the expense of replacement but probably not all of the costs. Insurers of churches are finding theft of lead an increasing problem and premiums will, no doubt, be rising further.
The Church, our oldest building, belongs to us all and it will need our help to cover these costs. If you have any inventive ideas to raise funds please contact The Chronicle comptonchronicle@yahoo.co.uk or the churchwardens, contact details in The Directory on the back page.

Over 60s

At our November meeting we were entertained by Joan and Geoff Todd who told us all about their involvement with Street Organs and played us some lovely organ music. They were dressed in Pearly King and Queen costumes and we all had a wonderful afternoon singing along with them.
Our Christmas Lunch will be held at The Merrie Lion on Tuesday 11th December at 12 noon for 12:30pm. The first meeting of the New Year will be on Tuesday 8th January in Fenny Compton Village Hall at 2:30pm when there will be a Bring and Buy Sale in aid of The Air Ambulance.
We wish everyone a Happy Christmas and New Year.

Fenny Compton & District WI

It hardly seems possible that Christmas is upon us again! One of our major events in a busy month is hosting the Village Violin School Concert – see article below.
Also, in December we are joining our Group WIs at a Carol Service in Kineton Church and enjoying Christmas Lunch at The Bell in Ladbroke. We will be hosting this year's Christmas Party with Boddington WI when the entertainment will be ‘Magic - Close up and Cabaret Style' - with John Parnell.
November had been a busy month. Twelve shoe boxes were filled and sent off to the Christmas Shoebox Appeal. Our November meeting was a talk by Cheryll Rawbone on The Friendship Project for Children; which is a Warwickshire Charity that matches children who are in need for a variety of reasons, with volunteers for friendship and fun. There was also a visit to St Mary Warwick to view the fantastic display of poppies that our craft group was proud to have contributed to.
Next year's programme gets off to a flying start on Wednesday 10th January with a talk by Stephen Bruce on Buying and Selling Antiques. Visitors are welcome to any of our meetings for the small charge of £5 which includes refreshments and a raffle ticket.

Fenny Compton Scout Group

It has been a busy Autumn term for the Scout Group. As the light has faded in the evenings, we have reverted to our indoor programme in the Village Hall, with evening and weekend trips out and about. Beavers enjoyed a sleepover in the Village Hall in October, whilst the Scouts enjoyed a Hammock Camp at Rough Close Campsite, Coventry. They cooked entirely on open fires, prepared a range of fish and game, as well as learnt axe, bowsaw and knife safety. Explorer Scouts are preparing for a similar camp, but with a hike element. The Scouts also enjoyed a winter walk around the Cotswolds in November, navigating from Long Compton to Shipston-upon-Stour.
The group has also been busy supporting the local community, through the Big Breakfast in aid of the church roof appeal, as well as having an excellent turnout for the Remembrance Service this year. Cubs produced clay poppies and the Beavers made recycled plastic poppy wreaths.
Thank you to everyone who has supported the group in some way – we are an active group and could not do it without the help of our volunteers, fundraisers, and leaders. If you think you might have some time, or a skill to offer then please get in touch!

The Compton Chronicle needs YOU!

Georgina Runnicles has moved on to pastures new. The Compton Chronicle will miss her and thank her for the sterling work she has done over the past eight years. We wish her and her family well for the future.
So, a vacancy has arisen on the Editorial Team and we need a volunteer to collate all the news items and update the Diary pages.
We hope to have someone from Avon Dassett or Farnborough, so the Editorial Team consists of volunteers from all villages that The Chronicle covers. However, anyone who is interested to help the community would be fabulous.
The work takes about 2 hours maximum a month. Please contact Georgina on 690 191 or email the Editorial Team on comptonchronicle@yahoo.co.uk
